Great Kingfisher photo. I find this to be a difficult bird to get still enough or close enough to get good photos of.

I agree, they are very skittish and wary birds…The only way I've gotten decent shots of them, was when I mustered up the patience to sit for hours and wait, with my camera focused on a branch where I knew one was regularly fishing from.

That sounds about right. I have gotten a couple of decent shots, but the Belted Kingfisher is probable one of the hardest birds in Newfoundland to photograph well.

A fun challenge, for sure. I'll certainly keep trying.

I keep trying as well, someday, i will actually be happy with a Kingfisher photo. I hope!!!

I'd like to get a close-up shot of one with a fish in it's bill…Might take me awhile.  :-)

By Tclenche on 9/9/2016 7:51:16 PM

i have not gotten a close-up, but i have posted a couple photos in the past with fish in bill, and have one to post in my sightings from the past week.

I have a shot from last week of a kingfisher in flight, with a fish in it's mouth, but it's just not tight enough for my liking. I'll have to keep trying for that elusive frame-filling shot.  Half the fun is in the trying. :-)

I agree. Success is good though too!!

For sure…Getting the shot is that big endorphin moment we're really after, whether we admit it or not. ;-)
