I wonder if that is really an immature black-headed gull? I'm not sure, but I don't see a "hooded gull" on the checklist of the birds of NL.

I described it as a hooded gull simply because I didn't know exactly what it was hoping that someone would be able to tell me. Thanks

really great photos!!!! I think it is a black-headed gull. I also think it is in it's last stage to an adult. I think you are right in naming IT hooded GULL. Eastern Birds names at least 6 gulls as hooded. I may be wrong, I am new at this.

It does look like it's wearing a hood - I think that's a better name. The scientific name of this bird (I am pretty sure) is Chroicocephalus ridibundus
