spotted this one feeding very near the shoreline off Britannia. at times it was so close, i could hear but not see it under the cliff near the church.

That is not unusual here, the water is still warm and this is the time of the year for herring, mackerel and squid, typical food for the whales, and Sharks for that matter

Yes, Tom, I've fished Herring and Mackerel for many years and we've seen Minke whales well in December every year, also the occasional Humpback Whale. tyhey sometimes are a nuisance, feeding on the fish which interrupting our seining. lost many a set for that reason.
