thanks Tom fore the comment. yes indeed, it was still alive when I took those shots. it was quite a ways out. the fish looked almost as long as the loon. it flicked out of it's grip and somersaulted in the air. when it came down the loon caught it . the loon tried to swallow it but it was too large. I think it was a small salmon or a trout.
