hoping for help with this one. This bird has been on our wharf off and on for the past several days. It is a sandpiper of some sort.

I'm not good at shorebirds, but I'm thinking it's a Spotted Sandpiper (Actitis macularius).

thanks Lessa! many of the sandpiper family have a similar look, and i suspect this is a young bird and not fully mature
